Balayage is the technique of free-hand painting highlights onto the hair, creating a soft and natural gradation of lightness towards the ends. The result is the look of summers spent at the beach.

Ombré is a more drastic, edgier version of Balayage with a starker transition of dark to light, sometimes with a harder line where the color transition starts.

It usually takes 6-8 weeks before you need to retouch a highlighting service. You need a touch-up when your Highlights, Balayage, Sombré or Ombré starts fading, or if the transition between natural color and the color treated hair is bothering you.
